Day 48

What Baggage are You Carrying That You Don’t Want?

Praying for Purpose for Women

Katie Brazelton

Baggage. “Bag Lady you gone hurt your back, carrying all them bags like that” Ask Erykah Badu about baggage. Baggage will weigh you all the way down. It keeps you from your purpose, promise and destiny. It causes you to build walls to hide from life, damages relationships and keeps you from being the best you and living your best life.

In today’s devotion the author talked about Jonah. You know the guy from the book named after him in the bible that decided he wanted to run from God, cause issues for some pretty unsuspecting people and ended up in the belly of a fish. If not go meet in the book of Jonah.  Jonah is a lot like some of us. He didn’t want to do God’s will and wanted to give up the call on his life thinking he could hide from God. That didn’t work out too well for him.

You see Jonah ran, are you running today? Are you allowing your baggage to hold you back from doing what God has called you to do?

Sometimes we look at our baggage and tell ourselves and God that we aren’t worthy to do what he wants us to do because of the bags. You see the thing is the more we run the worse it gets and believe me God will get His glory one way or the other. Don’t be placed in the belly of a “fish” because you wanted to run.

What do I mean by being placed in the belly of a fish? I mean God will allow you get to a point where you have no choice but to seek His face, seek his wisdom and his word.  Like Jonah, he jumped, the fish caught him and he sat there for 3 days until he was ready to do God’s will.

Journal Entry:
  • Ask yourself today are you allowing your baggage to hold you back from doing what God wants you to do.
  • Read Psalm 37:5
  • Pray today that God helps you release your baggage and move by his leading.
