Spring time, flowers, Easter, the resurrection of Jesus (yes they are different) longer days and shorter nights, clear skies and star gazing. All the things we typically think about when it comes to spring time. But do you think about clearing out your spirit, making sure you are spiritually sound. What do I mean by this? I’m glad you asked.
According to Google, spiritually means in a way that relates to or affects the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things and sound means showing good judgment or sense, legally valid. To look at these two words described I would take an educated guess to say that being spiritually sound is relating to the human spirit or soul and showing good judgement.
Are you SPIRITUALLY SOUND?!
Just like our closets we have to clear out our mind and ensure our spirit is in alignment with the Holy Spirit. One scripture that comes to mind is 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”.
Are you fighting feelings of fear and doubt?
If you are you are living outside of what God wants for us. I know we are all human and being human means we sometimes fall prey to our emotions but you have to snap back and not stay in them. If you are living in your emotions and fear is driving you instead of the power and authority God gave you, it’s time to let it go! Let the fear go and stand outside of it, remove it from your life and your thought pattern. When you feel fear creeping in tell yourself “I’m the righteousness of God, no weapon formed against me shall prosper, I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ.”
Are your friends holding you back or keeping you stagnant?
Yes we have those friends, that are our FRIENDS..You know BFF’s for life, we hang out, we talk about everything. I get it. I have some of those too but I cleared out the clutter they were adding to my life with their WORDS, ACTIVITIES and THOUGHTS (opinions they shared). I knew it was time for me to do some spring cleaning for my spirit when my conversations with certain friends weren’t aligning with my purpose and what and where God was taking me. It was a STRUGGLE Y’ALL…A STRUUUUGGGGLLLLEEE!! Okay not that bad maybe sometimes it was, but not all the time. The hardest were the closest. If our conversations and our friendships aren’t aligning guess what it goes into the trash pile or the goodwill pile, whichever.
No I’m not saying you have to cut them off forever what I’m saying is watch your conversations, watch your relationships, if it’s not of God, maybe we shouldn’t indulge or be prepared to not entertain it. Oh and don’t put your friends down because you are spring cleaning, love them, love them with the Love of God and allow your fresh spirit to overflow to them. Remember Proverbs 18:24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
God + Me Time
Now this is a big one. Are you spending time with God? I don’t mean like “Yeah, I read my little devotion and then I say a little prayer and go about your day.” I mean SPEND TIME..LITERAL TIME! It can be in the morning, at lunch, during your breaks or in the evenings before bed as long as you are intentionally spending time with God.
What does this have to do with Spring Cleaning? A LOT
You see when we spend time with God, intentional time in His word, praying, talking, meditating, He speaks to us. This is our time we are able to pour out to Him all of the things that are hindering us. Just like we do when we purge our closets, it’s a purging of our spirit in a sense. The only difference is that He can fill us up with good things. I love this time of year because it not only symbolizes the growth and newness outside but growth and newness in me.
Spring cleaning our soul shouldn’t be just in the Spring time but during the times when God is trying to elevate you to a higher calling in Him. It should be when you are ready to go into a higher calling and no I don’t mean you are ready to become a minister, I mean you might, but what I’m saying is God is ready to use you and me. It’s time we clear out and clean our spiritual beings so we can give Him all of us.
Until next time….
